Sara Dawson – Clinical Psychologist (Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Family)
About Me
Hello hello. I’m Sara, a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist specialising in assessment and therapy with children, teens, young adults, and families, both online and in person.
My particular areas of interest are supporting teens and young adults struggling with low mood, anxiety, self-image, aggression, trauma, emotion regulation, or a combination of difficulties, and working with caregivers to strengthen relationships with children of all ages and respond to tricky or confusing behaviour positively and effectively. I have over a decade of experience within NHS, social care, University, and private settings helping people to reach their goals.
I believe in working collaboratively, flexibly and respectfully, tailoring evidence-based therapeutic approaches to fit with your interests, strengths, and values. My therapeutic approaches include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and draws upon theory such as attachment and social learning theory. I also have extensive knowledge and expertise working with neuro and gender diversity and supporting individuals who have been impacted by trauma, abuse, neglect, marginalisation, and loss. Beginning from a strong, shared formulation can help us to identify what to prioritise and how to best begin moving forward.
But most importantly, the purpose of my work is to support and empower. I bring knowledge in theory and strategies, but nobody knows your story and experiences like you do. Let’s work together to help get you where you want to be.
Getting Started
Email me with your contact details and we can arrange a free initial chat over the phone (or Zoom) to see if I can be the right support for your family.
Appointments and Fees
I offer in person appointments, predominantly on Mondays, with additional online appointments available across the week.
Initial 20-minute Telephone/Zoom Consultation: Free
Clinical Psychology Session (50 minutes): £120
Initial psychology sessions will focus on assessment and formulation, to allow us to plan your treatment in the therapy sessions that follow. However, I can also offer longer assessment sessions for those seeking assessment without subsequent therapy, or if you simply feel that a more in-depth assessment session will be the most effective way to get started. We can discuss how this would look and the costs involved in your initial telephone consultation.
