Chris Gameson – Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist
About me
I’m Chris (he/him). I am a Queer-identifying, BACP-registered Integrative Therapist. Creativity is central to my life and to how I approach working with clients. Over 30+ years I have worked as an artist and in product and service design (Nokia, Samsung, BBC); working collaboratively and synergistically. I’ll bring to our work together the capacity to explore and catalyse your own (everyone has it!) creative spark to fuel your therapeutic journey.
I have worked since mid-2020 with clients at the Terrence Higgins Trust. My clients have represented various points on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum (and otherwise) and whilst identity and sexuality have often been focuses for exploration, with every client there have been more pervasive – more commonly experienced – challenges at play. I welcome each client in their glorious uniqueness.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (University of East London), a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Goldsmiths, University of London) and an Introductory Certificate in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (Oxford Mindfulness Centre, University of Oxford). In addition I have an MSc in Human-computer Interaction and Ergonomics (University College London) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design). I am constantly evolving my skills by undertaking more training; imminently in couples and group therapy.
How I can help
If you’re struggling at the moment, let’s work together to explore what’s happening. I offer a supportive, inclusive and creative space for you to unlock your unique potential to find meaning and forge transformation. You’ve taken the courageous step in broaching therapy – the power of which is not to be underestimated! It’s a step I would honour should you choose to work with me.
We can work to; alleviate the impacts of anxiety or depression (emotional regulation, Mindfulness; living more in-the-moment, interrogating recurrent thoughts and behaviours); amplify Awareness of your capabilities and the potential all around you (using Gestalt Therapy techniques); engage with the fundamental challenges of living so as to live more vibrantly whilst managing life’s turbulence (using Existential approaches). We may focus on your past, its effects in the now, or a combination of the two – but always at a pace that’s right for you.
I also work with what bodily sensation can communicate in terms of insight into the (unhelpful) ways in which we’re choosing to live – and to explore how to transform this. I am an advocate for exploring your unique context (nationality, ethnicity, identity, socioeconomic etc.) and their influences on your current challenges and how we choose to work together. I am interested both in the intersections of psychotherapeutic theory and practice with Social Justice and in Ecotherapy; acknowledging and addressing the effects of our cultural estrangements from the natural World. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.
I can help with: Anxiety / Depression / Trauma / Abuse / Relationships / Identity / Sexuality / Illness / Ageing / Bereavement / Loneliness / Stuckness / Work / Creativity.
How we’ll work together
I am an Integrative therapist, working 1-to-1 with adult clients. My Integrative approach means I’ll collaborate with you to author an optimal therapeutic journey – unique to you. I can draw on a number of different therapeutic approaches in order to achieve this.
We’ll review our process every so often to review any goals or focuses, modifying the therapeutic approach as needed. I work from a Humanistic position (I believe you know how to traverse the challenges you’re facing – though it may not feel like that sometimes).
