About Me

My name is Grace Kuhl, and I am a registered HCPC music therapist.

I am a flexible therapist, working both as a music psychotherapist and a traditional psychotherapist. If a client is open to incorporating music into the therapeutic process, I am specifically trained in facilitating this unique approach.

Whether or not you’re interested in using music in therapy, I’d like to share a bit about how I can offer support.

My goal is to help clients improve their well-being by creating a space where they can process and navigate their relationships—whether past or present. I provide a safe environment where both conscious and unconscious thoughts can be explored, empowering clients to feel more at ease with themselves and reduce their stress.

As a psychodynamically trained therapist, I take a person-centered approach to meet each client’s individual needs. I have experience working with a wide range of clients, and I draw from various therapeutic approaches, both modern and traditional (IE humanistic and psychoanalytic). Together, we explore which approaches will be the most nurturing and beneficial for you in the present moment. I’m also passionate about educating clients on these processes as they unfold, should that be helpful to you.

I am trauma-informed and deeply passionate about understanding how trauma shapes individuals. I’m especially interested in distinguishing trauma from developmental challenges and exploring how the two may intersect. My expertise lies in working with children and adolescents with complex needs, particularly those facing SEN, ASD, or ADHD challenges.

At the core of my interventions is a commitment to empowering clients. We all need nurturing to grow, and this nurturing helps foster trust in ourselves, ultimately leading to a happier and healthier life.
What is Music Psychotherapy?

Music therapy incorporates the sensory elements of music into the unconscious processes of psychotherapy. It offers an alternative way to connect, beyond just talking—whether through improvised music or music listening.

I believe music psychotherapy can be incredibly powerful for anyone. The sensory experience of music can facilitate growth and change during a session. Music empowers, helps us relate, allows us to explore our identity, and encourages self-reflection. Above all, music is a cultural force. Inclusivity is central to my practice, and I have experience working with clients with disabilities and clients from diverse backgrounds. I’m also passionate about feminist approaches in music therapy, a newer and evolving field that can be applied in various therapeutic contexts.

Ultimately, I see context as a major influence in therapy. A person-centered approach must consider not only the individual but also the world around them and how it shapes their inner life.
